Pastor Ron and his wife were at every one

was one of the reasons the response and attendance was so well. Pastor Ron will

It requires much wisdom
to reach ministers and men of influence. But why should they be neglected as
they have been by our people? These men are responsible to God just in
proportion to the talents in-trusted to them. Where much is given, much will be
required. Should there not be deeper study and much more prayer for wisdom
that we may learn how to
reach these classes? Should not wisdom and tact be used to
gain these souls, who, if truly converted, will be polished instruments in the
hands of God to reach others?--Ev. 562, 563.

elder shared how he was able to get a Bible study started that week-end with a
co-worker he had known for 12 years, yet who did not have an interest in Bible
studies. The method used in the seminar worked, and this friend will be coming
to his home for Bible studies! These four have agreed to be the core of
continued training and soul winning at their church! Great testimonies were
heard, and it is obvious that Jesus blesses efforts to work for souls!

Schedule a Soul Winning Made Simple Seminar
at your church and increase the success of your evangelism! We do two
week-ends a month. March, April and May are
taken. June and July have 1 week open. One week-end is open in August. One week-end
is open in September, and two week-ends are open for October and November. We
take December off for family visitation and travel. If you have an evangelistic
series in 2006, you will want to motivate your members to get Bible studies and
prepare to bring them to your meetings. Have the Soul Winning Made Simple
Seminar three months or so before your meetings and you will have better
results. I can speak from years of experience on that!

We now have a new
brochure that my daughter Natalie who is a marketing graduate designed, and my
eldest son Anthony who is a computer executive for the federal government paid
for it to be printed! We have had a great response when it is mailed to
churches. My youngest son Paul is a
great technician and computer ace and a big help at the seminars! We thank the
Lord for the good children He has given us! I also thank the Lord for my lovely and faithful wife, and we
also thank the Lord for you our faithful friends and supporters!
SOMETHING NEW!

I have developed a week-end seminar called THE
GREAT CONTROVERSY. Just three nights Friday night,
Saturday night, and Sunday night. These three power-point presentations
cover the whole great controversy, and each night calls for a decision to
follow the Lord all the way! The cost for the seminar is $1000 and this
includes travel expense, per diem, 10 posters, and a letter you can mail to
former members and your interest list. Plus it includes masters of the nightly
hand-outs. If you are interested, call 877-828-7432.

THROW
THE IDOLS DOWN!
From an 1859 Sermon
by C.H. SPURGEON re-written with the remnant church in mind by Pastor Tony
Cirigliano in March 2006.
“Now when all
this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of
Judah, and brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down
the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also
and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all.”—2 Chronicles 31:1.
It is always a great sight to see thousands
of God’s people assembled together to worship God, yet it is sad to see how
often reverence is lost once people come through the sacred doors.
How frequently the most sincere and
studied out address by the speaker for the Lord is forgotten, and becomes as
“the morning cloud, and as the early dew.” We very often go up to the house of
God, and imagine that we have done our duty when we have gone through the
service: self-satisfied, we return each man to his home. Oh that we would
remember that the preaching of the gospel is but the sowing of the precious
seed! Afterward there is a work of reaping to be done. A husband said to his
wife who returned early from church “Honey, is the sermon over already?” “No,
my husband” she said. “It was spoken; but what was said has not even begun to
be done.” There was wisdom in her answer.
A holy life should be the result of true
worship. There was a great Passover in the days of Hezekiah. If we could be
carried back thousands of years in time we might have been there to see the
solemn sacrifices, to behold the priests, with joy on their faces sing the
praises of Yahweh. We would have mingled in with the large crowd of worshippers
and listened for an hour to the Levite preach the
word. We would have done as the joyous worshippers did and clapped our hands
for joy at the sound of the golden trumpets, and then drowned out even the
trumpets with the magnificent sound of their vocal praise.
But I wonder when that scene had ended and
the multitude had gone to their homes, if Hezekiah might have sat down and wept
if there had not been a lasting effect from so great a gathering. Isaiah the
prophet was in that crowd, and perhaps was the gladdest of all. Oh, how his
noble heart beat for joy, and how eloquent was his tongue when he preached
among the people, and cried, “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the
waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and
eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” But the
great prophet’s heart would have been sad indeed despite the great sermon and
the wonderful music and praise if he had not seen some glorious results of so
great a worship service! In our text Scripture we see that this great Passover
feast ended, but not its blessed effects.
There are effects which should always
follow solemn assemblies of the Sabbath day. Especially should this be in this
present day! With shouts of joy and thanksgiving we too should do as they did
in Hezekiah’s time! We should go home from the church service and break our
false gods! Next, we should cut down the very groves where secret sin was
performed!
Yes, the true result of all our gatherings
should be, in the first place, to BREAK TO PIECES ALL OUR IMAGES. “Thou shalt
have none other gods before me.” “What!” you say. “Are we a nation of
idolaters? Can this text pertain to us? Shouldn’t the preacher preach this to
the Hindus, or to the Buddhists or to those living in the center of
The first god worshipped among us is the one
called self-righteousness. The Pharisees were the high priests of this god;
they burnt incense every morning and every evening before him, but he has ten
thousand times ten thousand worshippers still left all over the world – and
many in the churches of Christendom!
Among respectable classes of society he is
the preferred divinity. Many a
successful man or woman thinks their wisdom, and position is all-sufficient.
Among the self-proclaimed moral person, this is the great god before which they
bow down and worship. Even among sinners themselves, men and women whose
character is not moral, there is, nevertheless, found an altar to this god
within their hearts.
I remember a man who was living in
adultery with another man’s wife boast that he did not swear. I have known
others who were breaking Yahweh’s holy Sabbath yet who boast of some small work
they have done to help others.
Until we are brought to know our own lost
and ruined condition, self-righteousness is the god before which every one of
us will prostrate ourselves. My prayer for us is that the next time we worship
Yahweh in His holy house we determine to go home and aim a blow, by the help of
God, at self righteousness! Go home and fall down before the Lord and say
“Father forgive me. I am full of sin. Lord, I confess
before thee, that I have no good works in which to trust, no self-righteousness
on which I can rely. I cast my boastings away; I come to thee as a poor,
guilty, helpless sinner Lord, save me, or I perish.” That is the way to thrown
down the god of self-righteousness!
Paul once worshipped this god of
self-righteousness. He worshipped him so well, that, after the “most strict
sect of his Jewish religion, he lived a Pharisee.” Never, in his opinion, was
there a man so good a man as himself. He served this god with all his mind, and
soul, and strength.
But, then one day, as he was going to
May we all go home from the next church
service that way, and let the grace and convicting power of the Holy Spirit pull
down our self-righteousness. This might not be something we can do all at once.
Self-righteousness can be something like those colossal statues of
There are other gods still worshipped in
this world, to also be destroyed with unrelenting indignation. There is one which is certain to be broken
when a man becomes a new creature in Christ. This is the god Bacchus, that
jolly god whom so many adored in days of old with mad revelry, and who is still
worshipped by tens of thousands of Americans. Perhaps he is the great god of
Go to the cross and see Jesus there, and
you will have strength in him to say, “they that be
drunken are drunken in the night, but let us who are of the day be sober. I
renounce all the works of the flesh and the works of darkness. I will have
nothing more to do with them.”
Oh! If I had permission to tell you the
hundreds of stories of men and women I have seen in twenty years of ministry
that have been delivered from this god through the power of Jesus Christ! I can
tell you of homes that were a living hell where wives were treated with brutality
and their children with neglect; whose homes were empty, because every article
they had was sold to worship this despicable god. But when they heard the
gospel not just in word only, but with a believing heart and in power, their
home was changed. It became a paradise, their house is made glad with prayer, and
their children are now brought up in the fear of Yahweh the Lord!
I have heard hundreds of personal
testimonies as testimonies are an important part of the Soul Winning Made
Simple Seminar I teach all over the country. I have heard and seen many a wife’s
tear of gladness when she said, “Praise Jesus! He has changed my husband’s
heart and now we are so happy.” And she who was but a slave to one, who was
like a fiend, has now become the companion of one whom she reckons to be little
short of an angel! May this be the effect with some of you, for there are some
such reading this today or hearing this preached who still worship this
all-degrading deity. Jesus can still deliver totally from
this false worship!
You scarcely hear a minister in these days
talk of whoremongers, adulterers, and such like: but they are not all dead. There
are some to be found in every congregation. The streets have not become
Christian in this town yet, nor are its entire home clean and purified. The god
of lust has many followers and there is much hidden pollution to be dragged
forth, and cast down to the ground! Even in high places, sin is tolerated, men who
are respected and who have preached to others about the
In these days of computer porn and HBO and
as Ellen White called them “flaming hand-bills” telling of worshipping the god
of lust, there is deliverance in the gospel of Jesus Christ! Just once let grace come into the heart, and
away with the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life!
Jesus can give victory over the most darling lust, and that which was thought
to be the greatest pleasure, will then be looked upon with abhorrence and
detest.
If you live in lust and yet make
profession of religion, throw away that profession for it is a terrible lie! It
will only add to your guilt and destruction, and cannot save you from the certain
judgment because “nothing that defileth” will enter heaven! What a glorious
victory it is when a man or woman can go home from the house of God and thrown
down this idol!
There is another god whose form needs to be
thrown down by many a member of the remnant church. It is the god of business
and profit. There are things done which pass for honest trade that if put in
the balance of the sanctuary would be found terribly wanting! The result of
hearing the preached word should be such that the actions and business dealings
of members should be more upright and their conduct more Christ-like in their
daily business.
I remember visiting a lady who was telling
me of a great sermon she had heard on the radio. I asked her what the text was.
She replied, “It was a blessed sermon to me, sir, but I forget the text.” “Well,
what was the subject about?” I questioned. “Oh! I do not know; I forget now.” “Well,”
I said, in a preacher’s understanding, “it cannot have done much good if it
cannot even be remembered.” “Yes it did,” she said “for though I forgot the
sermon, I did not forget to fix my scales when I got home.” The fact was, she
had a scale that that gave false measure to her customers, and although she
forgot what the sermon was about, and she did not forget to fix her scale!
If any of you reading or hearing this are
in business and have false measures, though you may forget what this article
says or what the sermon is about, do not forget to go home and fix your scale
to give right measure! Have your weights set right, and remodel your business,
and “to do unto others as ye would they should do unto you.” Break down the god
of profit and false measures to pieces, if you follow with your whole heart the
statutes of the God of Israel. If you cannot serve God in your daily business,
then give such business up, or change it so that you can.
Is there some reading this or hearing this
preached that has no image to idol to break? I have thought sometimes that I
had broken all mines at one season. But when I truly see the Lord Jesus
suffering for me and when I really appreciate His goodness and holiness, then I
have walked through the temple of my heart, and I have seen in some dark corner
an idol still standing! Do you have one yet standing in your heart? Let it be
cast down! Use the sledge-hammer of the Holy Spirit upon it.
When I thought I had cleared all the
idols away, there was still one gigantic figure standing there, and it was the
god of pride. This god changes his shape continually; sometimes he calls
himself humility, and we begin to bow before him, till we find we are getting
proud of our humility! At another time he assumes the fashion of
conscientiousness, and we begin to carp at this and that, and all the while we are
bowing before the shrine of religious pride.
We think sometimes we are praising God
when we are praising ourselves, and we pray at times that God may prosper us in
doing good, and our greatest desire is to be honored, not that his name should
be glorified. This idol too must be cast down; but it is of such a form and
such a shape, that I suppose it is like the god Dagon. When the ark was brought
into the house, Dagon fell upon his face to the ground before the ark of the
Lord, and his head and the palms of his hands were cut off, nevertheless the
stump of Dagon remained. So will it be with us, I fear the stump of Dagon will
still remain, do what we may.
How foolish human pride is. It is like a
worm on a pile of dung boasting that his or her topsoil does not stink! When we
hear the word of Yahweh, let us each go home to our closet and begin to open
the door of the chambers of our hearts, and walk through them all, and say
“What have I to break, what have I to knock down, what have I to destroy;” and
let us be very careful that we do destroy all the idols we can! What do you
say?
In our Scripture today it also mentioned
cutting down the groves. Groves are the places where those images have been set
up. There was nothing, mark you, positively sinful in the grove. There could
not be anything wrong with a cluster of trees. They were very beautiful—they
were the work of God, but they had been used for an idolatrous purpose, and,
therefore down they must come.
Some
lax professors of this age might have told the ancient Hebrews “Break down the
god, but don’t cut down the trees. You may use them for very proper purposes.
Why, you may even go there to pray. There you may sit and refresh yourself, and
beneath their grateful shade you may even worship the true God.”
But true reformers say “No. We will cut
down the trees and all, because the images have been harbored under their shade.”
By God’s grace we need to lift the ax
and cut away the groves!
The first grove of trees, at which I must
strike at, is television and the movie theater. Yes there are good programs and
movies that pose no harm to the Christian faith, and in fact may enhance it. But
there is so much to defile and to destroy spirituality that many trees in this
grove must be cut down because false gods have been worshipped in these places,
and are being worshipped still. So hew down every one of these trees that are
not of God’s planting!
You might believe
that there are times when the theater or television might be profitable, and
you let your guard down. But be very careful and selective with your remote
because the devil has become the god of television and the theater. Choose
carefully Christian programming. I praise the Lord for Three Angels
Broadcasting, and Christian films and movies that life up Christ. These the
devil cannot touch. But I tell you that the god that is worshipped on most
television programs and movies is none other than Beelzebub – the Lord of the
Flies.
Morris Vendon once said, “Having a
television is like having a pet rattlesnake. If you’re not careful, it will
bite and poison you.” Take the ax to the entertainment of the world and cut
down its tree. This includes worldly music also.
Why put yourself in temptations way? Down
with the tree of worldly entertainment, abhor it; pass by on the other side,
rather than come in contact even with its shadow! Now, men may make what
apologies they please, but the matter is clear to me. I don’t believe any one
can perfect holiness in the fear of Yahweh without careful selection of what
they are entertained by! I don’t care that many would say my stand may be too
severe. We had better use severity than allow souls to perish unwarned modern
movies, video games; television can be a short-cut to hell unless you have the
power to choose that which is good. If you do not have the power to control the
TV, then take the ax to it so to speak! Remember what Jesus said about “if your
eye offend you”?
There once was an old lady who advertised
for a coachman, and three came in answer to her ad. To one she said, “How near
could you drive to danger?” “Madam,” he replied, “I could drive, I dare say,
within six inches, and yet be safe.” “Then you will not suit me at all,” said
she. She asked the next, “How near can you drive me to danger?” “I would drive
within a hair’s breadth.” “Then you will not suit me.” The third was asked,
“How near can you drive to danger?” “Madam,” said he, “that is a thing I never
tried; for I always drive as far off danger as ever I can.” She said, “Then you
will suit me.” The third coachman’s answer is good advice for any Christian.
The
Christian is to recollect, that “in such an hour as he thinks not the Son of
Man cometh.” Would he like his Master to come and find him in the society of
the ungodly; doing their dance? I think not! Doing the worldly dance while
graves are filling with unsaved sinners who are perishing by the minute just
does not seem right! Christians are to be the salt of the earth. If the salt
loses its flavor, what are the lost to do? Who will be anxious for their souls?
Brothers and sisters, there are poor to be relieved, sick to be visited. There
are strongholds of the devil that need to be pulled down by believers! There are
children to be taught, aged men and women who need leading to Jesus. There is
much work to be done in the great vineyard—this great field of the Lord, so
that a Christian cannot afford to waste too much time!
I have fervent love towards every brother
and sister in Christ who belongs to other churches. I love them for Christ’s
sake, and hold fellowship with them. But
I can have no charity for his errors. Its time for all Christians to get back
to the Bible!
May the Spirit of God’s latter rain be
poured out on His church and His remnant people so that there will be a three-fold
reformation in which idols will be thrown down, groves cut down, and fallen
altars scattered to the winds.
We’re going to heaven one day! Yahshua
Jesus is soon to return in power and great glory! It’s high time to awake out
of sleep, for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed! – Until
next month – Maranatha! – Tony, Mary Ann and Paul
