Greetings in the Lord! Hope this newsletter finds you will and happy in Jesus!
     I wrote this newsletter after we got back from Collegedale, Tennessee where we were one of the presenters in the special Lay Training Week-end sponsored by ShareHim ministries.    The picture to the left shows the Sabbath session I held in one of Hackman Hall’s classrooms. The Holy Spirit was there that weekend and he was felt in the classes. Elder Don Schneider President of the North American Division had a truly inspiring message for Sabbath worship hour, and elder Ted Wilson spoke on Friday evening. There were powerful testimonies from lay people in the field doing the work! It was great to see and hear the young people who have conducted public campaigns. I believe that the Lord is using Elder Folkenberg and his son as special instruments to arouse the church to work. This will help bring in the latter rain for we are told this, "When the churches become living working churches, the Holy Spirit will be given in answer to their sincere request ... Then the windows of heaven will be open for the showers of the latter rain." - E.G. White RH 2/25/1890. My only wish is that at these type of testimony meetings they also have people who have won friends, neighbors, family members and co-workers to Jesus through personal Bible studies held in homes. Although not as exciting or expensive as public meetings, I believe many more have come in through personal Bible studies than public meetings alone. In fact, our NAD president’s family came to know Jesus and the truth that way! Sometimes I have done informal polling of those attending my meetings asking them which way they came into the church and usually more came in through friends sharing Bible studies with them than from public meetings. A combination of both is the best way to go! Let’s not forget the great work of giving Bible studies – a work ANYONE can do at any age! The majority of the church will never do public meetings, but the majority of the church can be involved in witnessing through Bible studies and literature work. Why is it important to have the majority working? “When we have entire, whole-hearted consecration to the service of Christ, God will recognize the fact by an outpouring of His Spirit without measure, but this will not be while the largest portion of the church are not laborers together with God.”  - Christian Service, p.253.

   Yahweh our heavenly Father will never lead you into something that you can't handle in His strength.  God is equipped for anything out there, and you are also equipped with this earth-shaking power. God has promised to walk with you through everything. So why would He lead you somewhere, and then just drop you?  Men may drop you and back off from you so that you may feel like Uriah the Hittite in the heat of battle, but the Lord will never do that to you nor fail you nor forsake you! Praise His holy name! The old saying goes that God will never close a door without opening another, and I have found that to be true. When you keep running into closed doors, keep pushing through because if you faithfully follow wherever God leads, you will find your open door. Each time you fall short, just get back up with ever greater determination to accomplish the dream that God has planted in your heart. 
 
A Prayer for Today: Yahweh my Father, it's exciting to know that You go ahead of me to open doors of opportunity 
and service. Give me the faith, strength and perseverance to keep following You wherever You lead me. In Jesus'

Apostasy Bill Calls for Death to Converts from Islam

WASHINGTON, May 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- A new apostasy draft bill has been sent before a standing committee in Pakistan's National Assembly. If passed, the Apostasy Act 2006, adopted in first reading by the parliament and tabled by the six-party Islamic alliance, the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal or MMA, would sentence to death all Muslim men found guilty of leaving Islam. Muslim women would face life in prison for the same crime.

The draft bill goes into great detail over qualifications for conviction of "offenders". Section 4 of the bill states that testimony by two adults accusing someone of leaving the Muslim faith, or a confession by the accused, is all that is needed for conviction. However, in some courts throughout Pakistan testimony by non-Muslims is prohibited.

In Section 5 the apostate is granted 3 to 30 days to renounce his or her conversion and return to Islam. The section also stipulates that the initial rejection of Islam can still be punishable by up to two years incarceration, despite recantation. The death penalty becomes mandatory if a person converts from and returns to Islam more than three times. In addition to life in prison or death, offenders yield all properties in their name to Muslim relatives and forfeit custody of any minor or biological child under their care. Denounced by many in the minority religious community in Pakistan, including the Archbishop of Lahore, the draft bill would commit Pakistan as one of the world's worst violators of fundamental rights.

 

Institute on Religion and Public Policy President, Joseph K. Grieboski, reacted to the bill, stating, "This legislation is a clear demonstration that fundamental freedoms are of no importance to the National Assembly of Pakistan. Passage of this bill would usher in a new age of religious bigotry in a country that prides itself on being a strong and committed ally in combating global terrorism. Laws such as this would only serve to engender further extremist behavior. Being an alley of the United States is not only a matter of reflecting national interests, but a mutual respect for fundamental values."

Missing Bees, Cell Phones and Fulfillment of Bible Prophecy

 

MEDIA ADVISORY, April 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- Bees have been disappearing at an alarming rate. Learn how these missing bees relate to the use of cell phones, and the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. David Bradshaw has endured countless stings during his life as a beekeeper, but he got the shock of his career when he opened his boxes in January 2007 and found half of his 100 million bees missing. In 24 states throughout the United States, beekeepers have gone through similar shocks as their bees have been disappearing inexplicably at an alarming rate, threatening not only their livelihoods but also the production of numerous crops, including California almonds, one of the nation's most profitable. Pennsylvania beekeeper Dave Hackenberg was the first beekeeper to report to bee researchers what's become known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). The sudden mysterious losses are highlighting the critical link that honeybees play in the long chain that gets fruit and vegetables to supermarkets and dinner tables across the country. Beekeepers have fought regional bee crises before, but this is the first national affliction.

 

A Cornell University study has estimated that honeybees annually pollinate more than $14 billion worth of seeds and crops in the United States, mostly fruits, vegetables and nuts. "Every third bite we consume in our diet is dependent on a honeybee to pollinate that food," said Zac Browning, vice president of the American Beekeeping Federation. The bee losses are ranging from 30 to 60 percent on the West Coast, with some beekeepers on the East Coast and in Texas reporting losses of more than 70 percent; beekeepers consider a loss of up to 20 percent in the off season to be normal.

 

It seems like the plot of a particularly far-fetched horror film. But some scientists suggest that our love of the mobile phone could cause massive food shortages, as the world's harvests fail. They are putting forward the theory that radiation given off by mobile phones and other hi-tech gadgets is a possible answer to one of the more bizarre mysteries ever to happen in the natural world - the abrupt disappearance of the bees that pollinate crops. Late last week, some bee-keepers claimed that the phenomenon - which started in the US, then spread to continental Europe - was beginning to hit Britain as well. The theory is that radiation from mobile phones interferes with bees' navigation systems, preventing the famously home-loving species from finding their way back to their hives. Improbable as it may seem, there is now evidence to back this up.

 

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), occurs when a hive's inhabitants suddenly disappear, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature workers. The vanished bees are never found, but thought to die singly, far from home. The parasites, wildlife and other bees that normally raid the honey and pollen left behind when a colony dies, refuse to go anywhere near the abandoned hives. CCD has since spread to Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. And John Chapple, one of London's biggest bee-keepers, announced that 23 of his 40 hives have been abruptly abandoned. The implications of the spread are alarming. Most of the world's crops depend on pollination by bees. Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left". No one knows why it is happening. Theories involving mites, pesticides, global warming and GM crops have been proposed, but all have drawbacks. German research has long shown that bees' behavior changes near power lines. Now a limited study at Landau University has found that bees refuse to return to their hives when mobile phones are placed nearby. Dr Jochen Kuhn, who carried it out, said this could provide a "hint" to a possible cause.

 

Revelation 6:6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

 

Although the Bible plainly speaks of great famine in the last days, the prophetic words of Revelation 6:6 states that the olive and grape harvest will not be damaged. In general, breeders have assumed that grapes were either completely self- fertilizing or were cross-pollinated by wind, so that in either case insects were considered of no value. The grape harvest will not be affected by the missing bee population. Bees and other insects play a minor role in olive pollination; wind moves most of the pollen from tree to tree. Most olive varieties are self-fertile, but increased production often results from cross pollination. And neither will the olive harvest be affected by CCD.

Grape and olive oil production will only be minimally impacted by Colony Collapse Disorder while much of the fruit, vegetable and nut production will be severely reduced resulting in famine. These end time biblical prophecies are coming to pass within our own lifetimes demonstrating once again that the Word of God is true and to be trusted.

Soul Winning Gems

1.   “The time spent in quietly visiting families, and when there speaking to God in prayer, singing His praise, and explaining His Word, will often do more good than a public effort.  Many times minds are impressed with tenfold more force by personal appeals than by any other kind of labor.” -- Letter 95, 1896.

Note:  Singing a little song, saying a prayer, and opening the Word of God in someone’s home is many times ten times as effective as any other labor!  By all means, let God’s people do personal labor in the homes as well as by mail and telephone!

2.  “It is because the work has not been done for the wicked that time delays.” -- Manuscript Releases, Vol.10, p.275.

3.  “Fear not, from henceforth, thou shalt catch men.” -- Luke 15:10

Note:  Don’t be afraid Gospel Worker. Jesus promises you that from now on, you’ll catch men, women, and boys and girls in the gospel net!

4.  “Those who neglect the privilege of fellowship with Christ in service, neglect the only training that imparts a fitness for participation with Him in glory.”   Education,

Note:  Working for others is the ONLY training that imparts a fitness for heaven!  Let’s become fit for heaven by unselfishly working for the Lord’s lost children.  Linger at Calvary until a burden for souls is impressed upon you.

5.  “If thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at thine hand.” -- Ezekiel 33:8.

Note:  What a responsibility we have to share with others the great truths of the everlasting gospel!  Inspiration tells us that those who fail to witness will hear others say to them when it is too late: “You knew these things, and you didn’t tell me!”  Let’s not let those words be said of us!

6.  “Knowing therefore the tenor of the Lord, we persuade men.”  2 Corinthians 5:9-11.

Note:  We know what the future holds for those who reject Christ.  Let’s do as Paul did, and try to persuade them to turn to the Lord!

7.  “Let all seek for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as with the disciples after the ascension of Christ, it may require several days of earnestly seeking God and putting away of sin.” -- My Life Today, p.58.

Note:  It is by the Holy Spirit’s power alone that the work will have true success.  We need the Holy Spirit.  We need to put away sin and earnestly seek the righteousness of Christ.  Work and pray, and pray and work!

8.  “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” -- James 1:27.

Note:  Pure religion involves personal visits to those in need. The more work of this type that is done, the more souls we will see won!

Why Evangelism?

This article is modified from a sermon by the great evangelist Mark Finley of the same title.

 

     During World War II, six of our pilots were in flight from one of our aircraft carriers. During their flight blackout orders were issued by the carrier’s captain. The ships lights were put out and that made it impossible for the 6 pilots to see the ship and land safely. They radioed in saying, “Give us some light.” But there was no way to safely light the ship without it being destroyed by the enemy. The six pilots all crashed into the cold ocean when their fuel ran out. How tragic it is when there is no light!

 

     Dear brothers and sisters, the devil has issued blackout orders for this whole world! He does not want any to see the light of the gospel and be saved. He does not want any to have the truth that sanctifies the life and changes the heart!

 

     Many on the road of life need a place to land – a safe harbor because they are afflicted with the disease of sin and their life fuel is running out. Unless they find Jesus they will crash land into the ocean of death without God and without hope in the world!

 

     Let me say this, there is no greater joy for the Christian than seeing someone receive Jesus and believe the truth and be saved and baptized! I have had the privilege to baptize hundreds as a pastor and evangelist, and I am still excited when I hear of or see someone baptized! Heaven rejoices because a son or daughter has come home and has received the welcome from the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Luke chapter 15:10 “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Parents rejoice, children and families are saved too!

 

     The Master has given us a command found in Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”  The word “go” is brief but broad! Jesus wants us to be doers – people who GO PLACES to teach and lead His children to baptism. He said ,

Go TEACH. GO BAPTIZE. GO SAVE THE LOST. In Matthew 20:4 Yahshua said, “You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.” In Luke 14, verse 23 the Master said, “Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.” The New Testament records 40 people coming to Jesus – 34 were led to Jesus by friends or family. Only 6 got to him by themselves! Go YE – Jesus said, “You go.” In Mark 16:15, it is written: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” There has never been a better time for evangelism than right now!

 

     The work of soul winning is not for the minister alone. It is for all to do! In Revelation 22, it is written: “Let him that heareth say come.” A Missionary surgeon in China did cataract surgery and cured a man of blindness. A few weeks later, the man that could now see led 48 blind people holding on to a rope to the doctor! The man who received his sight went from village to village his story about a man who helped him see again, and he took the blind to the doctor! Let us take those who need spiritual sight to Jesus the Great Physician! If we go – God will have us meet those who need Him!

 

     There are many ways we can share our faith. We can ask people to do us a favor and let us share a set of Bible studies, or a DVD with them. We can give out literature with a Bible enrollment card inside. Our church can mail Bible study enrollment cards to the zip codes in the area. We can do neighborhood surveys door to door or by phone. We can place ads for Bible studies in the newspaper. We can keep inviting people to the meeti8ngs your church is having until you have at least two people that will come to the meetings with you!

 

     We will be having Revelation of Hope meetings in the Boone, Banner Elk and Valley Crucis area in the high country of North Carolina in October. We are preparing now by mailing out 24,000 Bible enrollment cards and I plan on visiting each one that sends in a card and giving them a free book and leading them to Jesus if they have not yet accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. I will try to pre-register them for the meetings in October on that visit to them. Pray for us and we will pray for your personal ministry!

 

     A few years ago, a pastor in Fort Pierce, Florida sent me a letter telling me that one day he went to his church and saw a man and woman sitting in the church parking lot in their car having a violent argument. He walked over to the car and asked if he could be of help. The wife then told him that her husband was threatening to shoot himself. The pastor saw a gun lying between them on a set of the Good News about God’s Truth Bible Studies! It seems that one of the older ladies of his church that took our Soul Winning Made Simple Seminar did what she learned in the class and asked a co-worker if he would do her a favor and do Bible studies with her. She did them by mail, and did not want to give her home address. Instead she used the church address. Little did she know that the person she was doing the Bible studies with was extremely depressed and was thinking of killing himself. The man decided to go to the address he was mailing the studies to and ask for help. By Yahweh’s divine appointment the pastor drove into the parking lot at just the right time. He offered to counsel with the couple and continue the Bible studies with the man and his wife. They agreed and they were both baptized some months later!  The Word of God is powerful and changes life whether read or heard!

 

     We have been told this: “The work of God in this earth can never be finished until the men and women comprising our church membership rally to the work, and unite their efforts with those of ministers and church officers.” – GW, p. 351. Anyone can work for souls. Billy Graham’s tells the story of the crippled boy who received Jesus as Savior at one of his meetings. The boy had cerebral palsy. Each night he saw that crippled boy come forward with a different friend each night. Billy Graham counted and said that boy led 28 people to the altar to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior! Crippled as he was he didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk!

 

In Isaiah 62:6, we are told this: “I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You, who call on Yahweh, give yourselves no rest.” Jeremiah couldn’t keep quiet!

In chapter 20 of his book in verse 9 he wrote: “But if I say, ‘I will not mention him or speak any more in his name’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.’”

 

     The world has changed a lot since September 11, 2002. We are seeing intensity grip the world. We see a supreme court now stacked with those who would could vote in a Sunday law. We are seeing churches joining with those who worship nature more than the God of nature making a religion out of the environment putting the gospel in the background and global warming (or some other cause in the forefront.). We see famines, pestilences and disasters on a level and with a frequency never seen before. Wars and rumors of wars, Church and State closer than ever, the Pope of Rome more popular than ever, nations are angry, population, famines, many, many signs that Jesus is soon to come! There has never been a better time to share the gospel and the truth with others.

 

     It was because a special couple who loved Jesus named Larry and Sandy Neumann took an interest in Mary Ann and I and our children that we are Seventh-day Adventists today. They came to our house each week and shared Bible studies and the love of Jesus with us. Sandy now sleeps in Jesus and Larry continues to be an inspiration to those who meet him and his new family. All the souls I shared Jesus with and did Bible studies with, and were baptized through the Lord’s blessings and mercy on my ministry they share a part in because they ministered to me. You and I can be that special friend or couple for someone else! Why not? The prophet Isaiah wrote, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’"

I want to have beautiful feet for Jesus – what do you say? The crippled boy’s feet were beautiful to those he led to Jesus at the Billy Graham crusade I mentioned in this article.

 

     Isaiah heard the angels talking and asking, “Who will go for us?” Isaiah said, “Here am I, send me.” That’s all Yahweh our Father wants for you and I. We are to be Ambassadors for Him and His Son. He loves to hears us say, “Here I am Lord. Can you send me?” In Romans chapter 10, verses 13-15, it is written: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things.’”

 

     We have a manual called Soul Winning Made Simple that will help anyone be trained and inspired by the Lord’s word to be a successful soul winner. There are many other books our there that will give you ideas, and inspiration and instruction how to share the gospel. Utilize them. Learn all you can and become an expert on the gospel. How beautiful your feet will be in heaven’s sight! Maybe God will use you to save someone you love! – THE BIBLE CHANGES LIVES! We are told in Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 327, “Not more surely is the place prepared for us in the heavenly mansions than is the special place designated on earth where we are to work for God.” WE ARE TO WORK FOR GOD. How dare we think we are to sit back and do nothing when souls are at stake!  In Psalm 142, verse 4 it is written: “I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.” Let those words never be said of us!

 

     Has anyone ever asked you, “How’s your day going?”  I wonder what the answer would be if we asked the Lord that question? “How’s it going Lord?” He might say, “Not too good today. I was in the Sahara this morning and millions of children are dying. I was in Africa – many are dying of AIDS, and many don’t know about Me! I was in your town today, and many of my children there need to hear the gospel and the truth but no one is going.” The Holy Bible says, we can being JOY to heaven by leading someone home to Jesus! I can understand that joy. One day my then little daughter Natalie was lost in a department store. We were frantic with grief and thank God we found her. We felt JOY INEXPRESSIBLE! “There is joy in heaven” when a sinner repents and comes home! Imagine your brother being lost – Dad says, “Let’s go and find brother.” How hard-hearted it would be to say, “Dad, I can’t go to look with you, I have to worry about making money.” Or “I had a busy week dad, I’m too tired to go.” Or “My favorite TV program is on, and I deserve some rest.” Or “Father, I can’t go to look because I never took a course on finding lost boys.”

 

Jesus changes lives! He changed my life!  Has He changed yours? In Desire of Ages, on page 822 we are told, “Whatever one’s calling in life, his first interest should be to win souls for Christ. He may not be able to speak to congregations, but he can work for individuals.” On page 146 of the same book, “In order to develop a character like Christ’s, we must work as he worked.” It is a privilege to work for souls!

“Those who reject the privilege of fellowship with Christ in service, reject the only training that imparts a fitness for participation with Him in His glory.” – Education, p. 264. “Strength to resist evil is best gained through aggressive service.” – Acts of the Apostles, p. 105. In the Review & Herald, Feb. 25, 1890, the Lord’s servant wrote, “When the churches become living, working churches, the holy Spirit will be given in answer to their sincere request . . . then the windows of heaven will be open for the showers of the latter rain.”

 

     When the message of God’s true Gospel goes to the entire world, Jesus will come! “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a witness to all nations, then the end shall come.” – Matthew 24:14. It will be finished here in Banner Elk, Newland, Foscoe, Valle Crucis, Boone, Roan Mountain, Trade, Mountain City, and in cities and towns all across the world! When it’s finished, the end will come! A church not growing is dead! A Christian not being a missionary is a mission field!
